Becoming a Teacher: My Philosophy on Education
For being an English teacher, I would call myself a Progressivist, who considerably believe that education, especially English teaching and learning, should focus on the whole child, rather than on the content or the teacher. Thus, the primary purpose of education is to enable students to acquire and learn useful knowledge that has meaning to them in the future; progress and change are fundamental to one’s education.
A metaphor, for a progressivism teacher, would be a tour guide for anyone who would like to travel the world and enjoy the journey. Thus, apart from teaching English, every English teacher should be cognizant of providing teaching and learning that allow students to learn much more knowledge in English as well as its application and cross-disciplinary cooperation with science, mathematics, philosophy, history, literature, etc. More importantly, due to the proliferation of technology, teachers can bring and manifest the acquisition of specific knowledge, especially language, into a real world where students can be attracted to dig up and acquire more related knowledge.
